Eph 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
salvation is by faith alone and happens at one particular time (Eph 2:8)
sanctification is an ongoing process which involves submission to Jesus Christ's lordship.
God does not save people from their sin only for them to lead carnal lives. God's intent in saving us is that we do the works He intended (Eph 2:10). The person who truly has been saved is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and it seems hard to believe that God would sit still while the person He lives in lives a life inconsistent with His will.
